Parasha: Masei (travels)

Hebrew translation:

83. מִשּׁוּם שֶׁבַּשָּׁעָה הַהִיא שֶׁיָּצְאוּ יִשְׂרָאֵל מִמִּצְרַיִם וְנִשְׁלְמוּ לְשִׁשִּׁים רִבּוֹא, הִתְחַזְּקָה הַמַּלְכוּת הַקְּדוֹשָׁה וְעָלְתָה עַל הַכֹּל, וְהֵאִירָה הַלְּבָנָה, וְאָז נִכְנְעָה מַלְכוּת הָרְשָׁעָה, הַצַּד הָאַחֵר, וְהוֹצִיא אוֹתָם הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא לָלֶכֶת בְּמִדְבָּר חָזָק, שֶׁהוּא מְקוֹם וְשִׁלְטוֹן סָמָאֵ”ל הָרָשָׁע, שֶׁהוּא שֶׁלּוֹ מַמָּשׁ, כְּדֵי לִשְׁבֹּר חָזְקוֹ וְכֹחוֹ וּלְכַתֵּת רֹאשׁוֹ (וּלְהוֹרִיד אוֹתוֹ) וּלְהַכְנִיעַ אוֹתוֹ שֶׁלֹּא יִשְׁלֹט. וְאִלְמָלֵא חָטְאוּ יִשְׂרָאֵל, רָצָה הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא לְהַעֲבִירוֹ מִן הָעוֹלָם, וְעַל זֶה הֶעֱבִיר אוֹתָם בְּנַחֲלָתוֹ וְגוֹרָלוֹ וְחֶלְקוֹ מַמָּשׁ.:

The portion of Masei is the last one in the book of Numbers and it doesn’t have Zohar study. You can read more about the 42 encampments in The Zohar: Bo.

In this portion we read the count of the 42 stations that the Israelites made on their journey to the Promised Land.

The number 42 connects us to the beginning of the book of Genesis. This first 42 letters of the Torah in the Creation Story are the seeds for the 42 initial letters of the Ana B’Koach prayer. It also called the holy name of 42. The Ana B’Koach creates for us powerful angels with creative force.

The Zohar reveals that when the Israelites left Egypt with a count of 600 thousand souls, Malchut (Kingdom) received strength and elevated itself. The moon, that is, the aspect of Malchut, shined.

The Holy one Blessed be He guided Israel through the wilderness on the way to the Promised Land. The wilderness (desert) has a strong hold on the negative side and its minister, sam-el.

God took us through 42 journeys allowing us to break the forces of the other side forever.

The Zohar uses the term ‘to crush his head’ because the negative side is the Snake that has forked tongue. The Snake is a lyre and hides the truth from us.

Because of its deception, the Israelites sinned and lost the opportunity to break the Snake forever.

Lesson: While revealing the force of the 42 letter names using the Ana B’Koach, we should meditate to break all negativity on our path. We should be pure in heart and actions so the powerful prayer will significantly benefit us.
